TIV Group Demands Apology from Venita for Defamation

The apex Tiv socio-cultural organization, Mdzough U Tiv Lagos State branch, has strongly condemned the false statement made by Big Brother Naija All Stars housemate, Venita Akpofure on the global stage. Venita had claimed that “TIV men give their wives to visitors for entertainment purposes”.

In a statement signed by its President, Engr. Theophilus Ukaa, and Secretary, Anagbe Terungwa, the Lagos chapter of Mdzough U Tiv described Venita’s statement as highly offensive and damaging to the reputation of the Tiv Nation as a whole. They demanded an “immediate, unreserved and incontrovertible public apology” from her.

The group also said they have directed their lawyers to begin legal proceedings against Venita for libel. They said that her remark was highly damaging to the image of the Tiv people and that she was complicit in throwing mud at her own people. They added that as a mother of children from a Tiv tribe, Venita should have instead served as an ambassador of truth and grace.
