Just In: SSANU Commences Strike Over Unmet Demands in Nigerian Public Universities

Nigerian public university non-teaching staff members, under the Senior Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), are set to begin a one-week warning strike on March 18, 2024.

However, the decision was made after a resolution at the union’s National Executive Council meeting. The union declared a seven-day warning strike effective from March 18th, pending due process within the union and discussion with NASU.

SSANU aims to press home demands abandoned by the government since 2022 and has a high likelihood of embarking on an indefinite strike if the government fails to meet their demands.

The group asserts that its members are not slaves and should be paid when they fulfill their contractual obligations. SSANU National President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, urged President Bola Tinubu to purge his administration of saboteurs and replace them with people ready to help him deliver on his mandate.
