President William Ruto Leads Efforts to Tackle Deadly Flood Crisis in Kenya

Kenya’s President William Ruto will chair a special Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to address the country’s flood situation. The floods have claimed almost 170 lives in the past month, with the Kenya Red Cross suggesting the actual number could be higher at 50.

Despite facing criticism for a slow response, Ruto defended his government’s actions and expressed a commitment to exploring additional ways to provide assistance. He stressed that his primary focus is ensuring that affected areas receive necessary support.

Anticipating further rainfall in the East African nation, authorities have taken preventive measures such as closing schools and relocating over 130,000 individuals, many of whom are seeking refuge in schools.
