Kenya’s Economic Growth Surges to 5.6% in 2023
Kenya’s economy expanded by 5.6% in 2023, up from 4.9% the previous year, buoyed by strong performance in the agriculture sector.
Agriculture accounts for more than a fifth of the country’s annual economic output, and favorable rains following years of drought facilitated the sector’s recovery from previous declines.
Macdonald Obudho, the director general of the statistics office, reported a growth rate of 7% for the past year. Additionally, the tourism industry experienced growth, with visitor numbers exceeding pre-pandemic levels, rising from 2.035 million to 2.087 million visitors last year.
