Neo-Colonialism The Last Stage Of Imperialism – Kwame Nkrumah

In May 1963, 32 African heads of state and government convened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to deliberate on the continent’s future. The event featured numerous notable speeches, but none stood out as much as that of Ghana’s leader, Kwame Nkrumah.
With a sense of urgency that set him apart, Nkrumah warned of the persistent threats posed by former colonial powers, now operating under the guise of neo-colonialism. He passionately advocated for a unified Africa, proposing the creation of a United States of Africa as the solution.
Nkrumah’s vision included a single African government, a united military, one currency, a central bank, and a collective national identity. He believed such unity was essential to safeguard Africa’s independence and guarantee its development.
Despite his compelling argument, his words did not inspire immediate action. The leaders listened but failed to act on his vision. As a result, the chance to achieve true continental unity slipped away, leaving Nkrumah’s dream unrealized.
