Adesua Etomi: How I Friend-Zoned My Husband For Over a Year

Adesua Etomi-Wellington, a Nollywood actress, and her Grammy award winning husband Bankole Wellington, better known by his stage name, Banky W, had their gospel service at WaterBrooks Church in Lagos recently. During the service, Etomi Wellington revealed that she friendzoned her future husband for a year and a half before finally accepting his proposal.

When asked why she remained in the friend zone for that long period of time, she said it was down to three factors. Her reason was that she wanted to make sure that she heard from God regarding the matter, she was unsure if her life could handle marrying Banky W and most significantly – she wanted to lay down a strong foundation of friendship.

The couple got married in a star studded ceremony in November 2017. In January 2021, they welcomed their first son who they named Hazaiah, into the world.

Adesua and Banky W relayed the importance friendship plays in laying the foundations of a successful relationship. They concluded that no matter the relationships status, without taking romance, sex and other components away, Banky W will still be her guy and her best friend.
