ANC Dismissed from Court Case Against Rival MK Party: Jacob Zuma’s Party Gains Momentum for Upcoming Elections

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), has been dismissed from a court case demanding the deregistration and ban of a rival opposition party, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party).

The court ruled that the party’s objection to the Independent Electoral Commission’s handling of the party’s registration had no merit and that it should have addressed the Electoral Commission before filing a court case.

MK Party, led by former President Jacob Zuma, is a potential contender in the upcoming elections. The party is named after the former military wing of the ANC, which was disbanded after apartheid.

The ANC is set to launch another court bid against Zuma’s party, challenging its right to use the name and trademark of the now-defunct organization. South Africa’s 29 May elections are expected to be highly contested, with the ANC under pressure to remain in power due to declining support in successive elections.
