Asake Remembers Victims of Brixton Crowd Crush

For the first time since the tragic tragedy that took the lives of Rebecca Ikumelo and Gaby Hutchinson, afrobeats sensation Asake marked his return to the UK stage. Asake created a touching three-minute tribute film.

Last December, a stampede outside the O2 Academy Brixton sadly claimed the lives of the two people.

On Sunday night, Asake returned to London and gave a moving reading of a poem he had written for Rebecca and Gaby. An appeal for anyone with knowledge on the incident to contact the authorities was made in the memorial video’s last moments.

The disturbance caused by the crowd during Asake’s first UK concert on December 15 resulted in the tragic deaths of Rebecca, 33, and security guard Gaby, 23.

The event is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police, and the O2 Academy Brixton has remained closed ever since that fatal night while Lambeth Council examines its licencing situation.
