Debunking the Hoax: Police Clarify Viral Video Claiming ‘Terrorist Invasion’ in Nigeria as Manipulated 2018 Footage Influencing Panic

Nigeria’s police have confirmed that a video allegedly showing a group of suspected terrorists armed with assault rifles and other weapons has been edited in 2018.

The clip, which claims the terrorists are moving from Benin Republic to Nigeria, has caused concern online. The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that the video was manipulated to create panic and fear among citizens and residents of Nigeria.

Adejobi described the act as unpatriotic, criminal, and punishable under the law, stating that such actions can cause harm, incite panic, and escalate tensions.

Adejobi urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, warning those who share false information to stop or face consequences. The police ensure that individuals involved in creating or spreading misleading content will face the legal repercussions.
