I Almost Killed Myself – Iyanya Recounts Bankruptcy

Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, a Nigerian singer who went bankrupt in 2020, tells his story of nearly committing suicide after losing his house and living in a hostel.

Temple Management Company took him to court for allegedly stealing the company’s car. Iyanya narrated this while appearing as a guest on Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh’s Tea With Tay podcast.

He claimed that he had been in court for a long time and that when he stopped performing, he was forced to rely on his savings. He felt compelled to start touring, however the COVID-19 pandemic made him to stay at a hotel, where he was stalked and had to stay for more than a year.

Alaba, the hotel owner, let Iyanya stay there for over a year, but the pandemic caught up with him. Iyanya was in the hotel during the lockdown and nearly committed suicide, only to be stopped by the manager.
