Kenyan Government Faces Crisis and Violence Following Controversial Finance Bill Vote

The Kenyan government has been dealing with a significant crisis after the vote on a controversial finance bill. Violence led to loss of life and property.

The defense minister deployed the army and President William Ruto assured the nation that all resources are being used to prevent a repeat. Demonstrators tried to breach State House in Nakuru and burned ruling party offices in Embu.

Kenya Law Society President Faith Odhiambo said 50 Kenyans, including her assistant, were reportedly taken by police. Ruto pledged to the youth for dialogue but stressed on upholding constitutionalism, rule of law, and respecting institutions.

He has two weeks to sign the bill into law. The African Union commission chairperson urged for engaging national stakeholders in constructive dialogue.
