Nigerian Students Loan Scheme Launch Postponed Indefinitely
The Nigerian government has postponed the launch of the Nigerian Students Loan Scheme indefinitely, according to Akintunde Sawyer, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund. The scheme, which was supposed to start between September and October 2023, was postponed after missing the October deadline.
The programme was planned to begin in January 2024, but preparations were completed in January. The Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Sununu, announced that the program would start once more features, such as vocational studies, were added.
However, just 48 hours before the launch, Sawyer said the scheme was postponed due to corrections being made around the launch. He said the government is waiting for stakeholders to align and ensure a meaningful, comprehensive, wholesome, and sustainable rollout.
