Osbourn Dorsey The Black Boy Who Invented Doorknobs

“Do you know that a young Black boy invented the doorknobs we use in our homes today?”. As some will say, at 16, Osbourn Dorsey opened the Door for everyone in the world.
“Envision a Globe lacking doorknobs. Strenuous isn’t it? This daily fact, usually ignored, was the brainchild of a sixteen-year-old black boy named Osborne Dorsey.
Back in 1878, in Washington, D.C., Dorsey reformed door-opening. During his teenage age, Osbourn Dorsey figured out a way to solve the problem of door entryways. Prior to his innovation, people had to use latches, planks to close their doors or leather straps for handles.
At the age of 16, Dorsey set out on a journey to solve this problem, which was personal to him at the time, for the safety of himself and his family..
Born in September of 1861, as gathered in the liberation records, he was set free at the infant age of 8 months in the middle of an ongoing civil war. Intriguingly, by 1880 population count, a bare year or two after his innovation, Dorsey was hired as a meat cutter and resides with his family.
Dorsey’s  revolution, the doorknob didn’t bring him riches. It took years for this ingenious idea to be acknowledged, superseding the time-honoured latches and leather straps. So, the next time you seamlessly turn a doorknob, bring to mind to thank a black young man – Osbourn Dorsey, the underappreciated champion behind this universal breakthrough”.
