World Athletics Championships Clear for Amusan

Tobi Amusan, the current world record holder in the 100-meter hurdles event, has received permission to compete at the World Athletics Championships, which get underway this Saturday in Budapest, Hungary.

The 26-year-old was accused of three whereabouts failures and three out-of-competition test violations over a 12-month period. The Nigerian had denied the allegations against him.

The World 100m hurdles record holder has reportedly been cleared and will now fly to Budapest to defend the historic gold medal she won at the 18th edition of the Championships last year, according to news out of Budapest from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

Following the successful defence of her titles from Nigeria, the African Championships, the African Games, the Commonwealth Games, and the Diamond League, Amusan now has the opportunity to defend the one title she has not done so in her career.
Amusan was reportedly exonerated from two of the three tests by the panel of three arbitrators after the Nigerian claimed that the tester had not done enough to find her.

It’s interesting because Amusan had said she wasn’t a drug cheat.

“I am a clean athlete who undergoes routine (maybe more often than typical) testing by the AIU. I underwent testing just days after my third “missed test.”

Amusan stated on her Facebook page last month, “I have faith that this will be resolved in my favour and that I will be competing at the World Championships in August.”
