1 Guard Shot Dead As Gunmen Attack Calabar Correctional Centre

One staff member, Polycarp Essien, was killed in a shootout with unidentified attackers, according to the Calabar Correctional Centre in Cross River State.

The incident, which happened on Wednesday night, is currently being looked into by the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in Calabar. The gunmen, who were thought to be terrorists, stormed the building and opened fire randomly to frighten the on-duty officers.

The building is situated close to the Afokang settlement in the Cross River State LGA of Calabar South. According to reports, the shooters entered the facility from adjacent streams and wreaked havoc before escaping wounded back into the water.
