ADF Attack Leaves Over 20 Dead in DRC

Local reports reported that at least 20 civilians were slain on Monday night in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo in an attack that was carried out by ADF rebels who were linked to the Islamic State.

The attack happened close to the town of Oicha, which is located in the Beni region of North Kivu province.

The town’s mayor, Nicolas Kikuku, told AFP by phone early this morning, “So far we have 20 bodies.”

The civil society representative for Beni territory, Darius Syaira, stated, “We have just put 26 dead in the mortuary. He claimed that there were 14 adults and 12 youngsters among the victims, the most of whom were hacked to death.

The ADF (Allied Democratic Forces), formerly rebels from Uganda with a predominance of Muslims, have been active in the east of the DRC since the 1990s and are suspected of massacring thousands of civilians there.

Authorities in Uganda accuse them of killing three people, including two foreign tourists, at Queen Elizabeth Park on October 17.
