Nationwide Blackout Sparks Criticism As NUEE Goes On Strike
The National Organisation of Electricity Employees (NUEE), an organised labour organisation, has gone on an indefinite strike, forcing Nigerian electricity workers to shut down the country’s system. Following orders from the Nigeria Labour Congress, the strike got underway on Monday and resulted in a national blackout.
There is a blackout across the Federal Capital Territory and the adjacent districts. The strike action has drawn criticism from the Nigerian Presidency for organised labour acting against court orders and showing disrespect for the legal system.
The nation’s economy and social activities are negatively impacted by labour leaders’ personal interests, which has angered the government.
Recall that last week, the unions announced a nationwide strike in response to an attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero on November 1, 2023, in Imo State.
