Liberia’s State Coffers and Former Administration
Liberia’s former administration left a balance of US$20.5 million in state coffers when it left power, according to President Joseph Boakai.
The Senate ordered the Central Bank to clarify contradictions between Boakai and his predecessor, and mandated joint committees on Public Accounts and Audit, Banking, and Currency to invite the Central Bank of Liberia leadership.
President Boakai pledged to tackle corruption and ensure regular audits become the norm in all branches of government, not just the executive.
Geroge Weah, who lost the presidential election last November, expects Boakai not to pursue officials from his administration, similar to his actions in the first Unity Party government when Boakai served as Vice President.
