Rwanda’s President Kagame Gains Major Endorsements for July Elections: A Dominant Force in Rwandan Politics
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has been endorsed by two of the oldest and most influential political parties in the country, the Liberal Party (PL) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
The two parties joined four smaller political parties already in a coalition with the ruling RPF in endorsing Kagame in the July presidential race. The Social Democratic Party president, Vincent Biruta, praised Kagame’s acknowledgment of and consideration of ideas from other political parties.
Kagame, who has ruled Rwanda for decades, has won the presidency in elections in 2003, 2010, and 2017, with over 90% of the vote. Rwanda will hold presidential and parliamentary polls on July 15.
