Julien Alfred rips up 100m script to write her name into Olympic history

Just as the saying goes, the world has yet to experience the full potential of humans, who are gifted in various ramifications. A sprinting star is born – although the St Lucian champion didn’t feel like the underdog in victory over Sha ‘Carri Richardson.
St Lucia had never previously won an Olympic gold medal. St Lucia had also never previously won silver or bronze. It is the most lovely of Caribbean islands with a population of just under 200,000 and a proud sporting history in the more sedentary charms of cricket (Alfred went to the same primary school as West Indies’ top-order biffer Johnson Charles).
Perhaps the best part of her gold here was that this didn’t feel like an underdog victory or a scramble. It was instead the most majestically commanding of runs, teed up in the heats by a fearsome display of power in reserve from the lane next to Richardson.

What it feels like to be:
The ONE to have enough courage to step up and fight for your dreams;
The ONE to change your family tree forever;
The ONE to stand up to shift the paradigm and inspire change in your community or country.
Julien Alfred did this when she won the first ever GOLD medal for her country, Sainte-Lucia, in the Paris Olympics 2024.
