Rhasidat Adeleke Is First Irish Woman To Reach Olympic Sprint Final

Rhasidat Adeleke has made history by becoming the first Irish woman to reach an Olympic sprint final.

The 21-year-old from Nigeria descend came second in her semi-final with a time of 49.95 seconds.

Having won a silver medal at the European Championships in Rome earlier this year representing the Republic of Ireland, Adeleke will be hoping to secure a medal for Ireland at the Olympics.

The 400m final will take place this Friday at 7 pm in the Stade de France. Adeleke is the only Irish woman ever to break the 50-second mark over 400m.

Paris 2024 has been Ireland’s most successful games yet, with Team Ireland returning seven medals in total, including four gold and three bronze.
