How The Republic Of Tanganyika & Zanzibar Became Tanzania

Prior to 1960s, before European invasion of the country now known as Tanzania, Tanzania used to be two separate countries, the republic of Tanganyika and the republic of Zanzibar.

The republic of Tanganyika was colonized by the British and gained independence in 1961, while the republic of Zanzibar was colonized by the Portuguese & gained independence in 1963. Both countries were best of neighbours, and in 1964 they decided to unite and became the Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.

A Few months after, it was eventually renamed the country we now know as Tanzania with its capital at Dodoma. Since both had different flags, both Tanganyika and the Zanzibar flags became one that represents what both countries stand for. The unity of both countries despite in their small numbers have brought wealth and prosperity to the its people as both live as one, in peace and harmony. Tanzania today is said to be one of the most beautiful and peaceful places to visit, a place where Humans and Nature meets.

This is Tanzania, one of the most amazing places to be in Africa and the world.
