How The Mighty King Shaka Zulu Died

Here is one of the most infamous tales of betrayal ever recounted in history. This is a tale of the end of one of Africa’s most respected kings from the Zulu Kingdom; this is a story about Shaka Zulu.
In September 1828, One of Africa’s most respected King, King of the Zulu kingdom, Shaka Zulu was assassinated by his brothers.
King Shaka Zulu, was a legendary warrior king who transformed a small, fragmented people in the Zulu Kingdom in Southern Africa into the formidable Zulu nation, which today is now a part of South Africa.
Just as the saying goes, with great power came more enemies.
After the death of his mother Nandi, his grief gave way to paranoia, and during this vulnerable time, those closest to him, including his brothers, began conspiring to bring about his downfall. Shaka’s half-brothers, Dingane and Mhlangana, coveted the kingdom he had built and the power he held, and they desired it for themselves.
Although Shaka was no fool, the brothers made their move.Shaka, who had never backed down from a fight, was caught off guard—his back turned.
‘Brother!’ Dingane called out. Shaka turned to face him, but before he could react, the men struck him with their spears. As Shaka fell to the ground, he uttered his final words: ‘You think that by killing me you will rule this land? You will never know peace.’ His words would prove prophetic.
Though Dingane claimed the throne, his reign was far from peaceful, and the people would remember Shaka Zulu, the man who had made them a great nation.
