Faith Is Not a Substitute for Governance: A Call to Religious Leaders and Believers. To our beloved religious leaders and congregants—Christians, Muslims, and all people of faith
The sacred texts are clear: “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.” National insecurity is not a divine matter—it is a governmental one. It is time to stop outsourcing civic responsibility to heaven and start holding earthly leaders accountable.
Let me be clear: this is not an attack on faith. Prayer has its place. But when it comes to national crises—kidnappings, killings, economic collapse—God is not the one who will descend to fix our broken systems. He has not done so in Ukraine, where 85% of the population is Christian. He did not intervene in Congo, Sudan, Syria, or Palestine. Why would Nigeria be different?
This is the honest truth: believing that prayer alone will secure Nigeria is naïve. The only viable path forward is civic action. The only way out is #RevolutionNow.
I am not against religion. I am against its misuse as a tool of manipulation. Any pastor or imam who discourages you from speaking truth to power is either confused, deluded, or serving interests that are not divine. A true spiritual leader must empower their congregation to demand justice, accountability, and transparency from those in power.
Go to church. Go to mosque. Go to shrine. Worship as you choose. But do not be brainwashed into silence.
As one tweet aptly put it:
“Church and mosque updates are too sweet—you don’t have to prove anything. If it goes right, you get the glory. If it goes wrong, they say your faith wasn’t strong enough.”
When will Black people liberate themselves from this cycle?
Again, I am not denying the power of prayer. But let’s be honest: many prayer points today are simply attempts to fill the gaps left by failed governance. Insecurity is rampant, and we are asking God to do what exactly? Were the pastors, children, and innocent believers who were kidnapped or killed less worthy of divine protection?
Imagine if all that spiritual energy was redirected toward demanding accountability from our leaders. You have prayed enough. Now is the time to act. Speak in one accord. Demand that your government either performs—or steps aside for those who will.
