​A pivotal confrontation took place during a gathering in Kaduna, attended by numerous paramount traditional rulers and the Queen of England. A key colonial directive mandated that all traditional rulers present must uncover their heads as a sign of deference when greeting the Queen. However, for Attah Ameh Oboni, removing his ceremonial cap in public was a profound cultural violation and taboo, undermining his sacred authority and dignity as the King.

​He stood firm in his refusal to comply. Compelled to exit the meeting due to his defiance, the Attah finally removed his cap outside the venue. The result was instantaneous and chaotic: a swarm of bees erupted from his headwear, plunging the gathering into pandemonium and forcing an abrupt end to the proceedings.

​Following the spectacle, the British colonial administration ordered Attah Ameh’s apprehension. However, his detention was marked by extraordinary events. Accounts state that handcuffs mysteriously detached from his wrists, and he subsequently vanished from his securely locked holding cell, defying conventional restraint.

​This demonstration of power further solidified the colonial government’s view of Attah Ameh as an unmanageable and formidable opponent, unlike other more compliant local leaders. Determined to remove him from power, the Northern leaders and the colonial authorities fabricated a charge of human sacrifice during the annual Ocho festival. This false accusation led to the festival’s immediate prohibition, a ban that lasted for 63 years. Even after these accusations were later demonstrated to be baseless, the King’s political fate had been sealed.
