ASUU Rejects Student Loans Call for Grants

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Bauchi State zone has rejected student loans in favor of grants to fund their education.

Associate Professor Lazarus Maigoro, the zonal coordinator, announced this while awarding scholarships to 19 indigent undergraduates at ATBU Bauchi.

The intention behind collecting students’ data is to engage the government in reevaluating loans and advocating for grants instead.

Maigoro emphasized the psychological trauma students would experience due to the loan, which could negatively affect their performance.

Ibrahim Inuwa, the Chairman of ASUU ATBU branch, affirmed that the union will persist in advocating for quality tertiary education for the collective benefit.

The scholarship award, a yearly event, seeks out brilliant but indigent students for recognition and award.
