AU Yet to Receive an Invitation to G20

The African Union hasn’t received an invitation to attend the upcoming conference in New Delhi this weekend, even though India and the US are working to include it in the G20, said a spokeswoman.

Two-thirds of the world’s population and 19 nations make up the G20, which also includes the European Union.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his desire for the AU to join the G20, which only includes South Africa as an African nation at the moment.

In December, US Vice President Joe Biden reiterated his desire for the AU to become a permanent member of the G20. Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser for the White House, expressed his optimism that the G20 would be stronger because of the African Union’s voice.
