Deadly Blast in Nigeria’s Ibadan City

A massive blast in Nigeria’s Ibadan city resulted in two deaths and 77 injuries, according to the governor. The blast was caused by explosives stored for illegal mining operations, according to Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde.

Residents fled their homes in fear after the blast. A perimeter of security guards surrounded the area, and ambulances and medical staff were standing by.

The damage was described as “devastating,” and the governor has deployed first responders and agencies to carry out comprehensive search and rescue operations.

News reports posit that the explosions were stored in remote areas where arrests are difficult and safety procedures are rarely followed.

Most of the 77 injured were discharged, and the governor promised to cover medical bills and provide temporary accommodation for those affected.
