Deadly Flooding in Central Congo

Heavy rains in central Congo have killed at least 22 people, including 10 from the same family, in the district of Kananga.

The flooding destroyed many houses and structures, and rescue efforts intensified. Five more deaths were confirmed, and the collapse of a wall caused 10 deaths, all from the same family in Bikuku.

Flooding caused by heavy rainfall is frequent in parts of Congo, especially in remote areas.

In May, over 400 people died in floods and landslides in eastern Congo’s South Kivu province. The national government is requesting urgent action.
