Escalations Continue in Darfur Amid Warnings From the UN

In the seventh month of the conflict between the Sudanese army and paramilitaries, the UN has issued a warning about escalating hostilities in the Darfur region.

The fighting is still going on in Darfur, in the west of the country, and in Khartoum and its suburbs.

There was no agreement on a ceasefire at the end of a fresh round of talks supported by the US and Saudi Arabia.

Witnesses stated that a health worker was killed when a shell fell on the AlNau hospital, which is located north of Omdourman, and that bodies of persons dressed in military uniforms were lying about the city.

The UN also voiced worry about the humanitarian situation in Darfur, noting that thousands of displaced persons and residents in El-Facher, the capital of North Darfur, were in grave risk.

Reports of grave human rights violations by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur, especially in the Ardmata region, have deeply concerned the US embassy. More than 9,000 people have died and more over 6 million have been displaced in the conflict between the army and General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo’s FSR.
