Ex-president Jonathan: Africa Needs to Rejig It’s Democracy
Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed concern over the recent increase in coups in African countries, calling for a revamp of democratic systems on the continent.
Speaking at a Democracy Dialogue event organized by his foundation, Jonathan noted that democracy should benefit citizens by promoting development and reducing poverty and unemployment.
He emphasized the need for African leaders to uphold the rule of law, respect human rights, and strengthen institutions in order to foster a stable and enduring democracy.
Jonathan’s comments serve as a reminder that African nations must prioritize the well-being of their citizens in order to curb political instability and promote progress.
