FAAN Relocates Corporate Headquarters to Lagos

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has moved its corporate headquarters from Abuja to Lagos, following a consultation with stakeholders and unions.

The move follows the Central Bank of Nigeria’s announcement that it would be moving some key departments from Abuja to Lagos, the country’s commercial hub. Critics argue that Lagos is congested and the government should focus on decongesting the former capital.

FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, stated that the relocation was in the best interest of the Authority and the country for now.

The decision to move the headquarters to Abuja was deemed ill-advised as there was no single FAAN building in Abuja to accommodate all of them at once.

The Authority would be liable to pay DTA (DUTY TOUR ALLOWANCE) to those affected by the decision. The other option was to abandon the old FAAN building in Lagos and rent an office space in Abuja for millions of Naira of public money, but stakeholders and the Minister decided against this.

The Minister plans to get concessionaires to build befitting offices for the Authority in Lagos and Abuja, and until that is done, the Authority will continue to manage its old building in Lagos.

Abuja continues to have full operational offices, and the final decision on the permanent headquarters location will depend on the exigencies of the time.
