FG Opt for Low Profile Celebration on Independence Day

As Nigeria prepares to celebrate Independence Day, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has announced that this year’s festivities will be more subdued compared to previous years.

Akume, who made the announcement after meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, assured Nigerians of the government’s readiness for the occasion.

“We are fully prepared for the celebrations,” Akume said. However, he emphasized that the festivities will be low-key in nature, a departure from the grandeur of past celebrations.

The SGF extended well wishes to Nigerians and assured them that better days are ahead. “Brighter days are on the horizon, and they will come soon,” he added.

When asked about the differences in this year’s celebration, Akume pointed out the subdued nature of the event, saying, “We will not have a grand celebration at the Eagle Square or other locations. Instead, it will be a time for reflection and for all of us to think deeply about our future as a nation.”

Regarding his visit to the vice president, Akume clarified, “He is the Vice President of Nigeria, and the President is currently on official assignment outside the country.”
