Fuel Prices Rise in Congo Amidst Economic Struggles

In the Republic of Congo, the cost of diesel and petrol has increased by 25% since July and by 25% since October.

The increase is attributable to the recommendations for the 2019 Extended Credit Facility from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The What You Pay coalition’s (PCQVP) Congolese section opposes these fuel price rises, claiming that the nation can refine oil for internal use and do away with the need for subsidies.

Although the Congolese government has taken measures to lower inflation, civil society believes that the problem can only be solved by combating corruption in the oil sector.
