Gabonese President Leads National Dialogue for Democratic Revitalization after Bongo Dynasty Rule

Gabonese President Felix Tshisekedi has led a national dialogue aimed at revitalizing democratic institutions after 54 years under the Bongo dynasty. The initiative, led by Archbishop Jean Patrick IBa-Ba, attracted over 4,000 citizens at the Libreville sports palace.

The goal is to create a more just, fraternal, and prosperous Gabon, with a focus on genuine socio-economic development. Participants, including transitional senator Armelle Yembi Yembi and trade unionist Sylvain Mayabi Binet, emphasized the need for equitable distribution of Gabon’s wealth.

Nicaise Moulombi, representing civil society, emphasized the importance of overcoming past challenges and fostering a renewed sense of purpose. The dialogue’s outcomes are expected to be translated into legislation, laying the groundwork for a new constitution that will be put to a referendum, allowing the Gabonese people to have a direct say in shaping the country’s democratic framework.
