General Nguema Seeks Ouattara’s Support to Lift AU Sanctions on Gabon

General Brice Oligui Nguema met with Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara during a visit to the country for “work and friendship.”

Nguema asked for the support of Ouattara to lift African Union sanctions against Gabon, which was suspended from the African Union after Nguema overthrew president Ali Bongo.

Gabon launched a national dialogue to prepare for elections in 2025. The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) reinstated Gabon in March.

The general thanked Ouattara for his involvement and willingness to support the transition process. Ouattara praised Nguema for his efforts to return to constitutional normality and for convening an inclusive national dialogue. Nguema plans to hold talks with the Gabonese diaspora during his visit.
