Gunmen Kidnap Akwanga Chairman in Nasarawa State

Gunmen have kidnapped the Chairman of the Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Safiyanu Isa Andaha, despite security operatives’ presence.

The incident occurred on New Year’s Day in Ningo village, and police have been working to trace the abductors.

Nasarawa and Zamfara are among several Nigerian states terrorised by bandits who raid villages, kill and abduct residents, and burn homes after looting.

The gangs maintain camps in a large forest straddling Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states.

Nigeria is grappling with numerous security challenges, including a 14-year jihadist insurgency that has killed at least 40,000 people and forced over two million others to flee their homes.
