ICC Prosecutor Progresses in Probes on Migrant Crimes

Karim Ahmad Khan, the prosecutor for the International Criminal Court (ICC), has stated that in the past six months, his office has gathered over 4,000 pieces of evidence and carried out over 15 investigations.

This update was given eighteen months after the ICC’s work in Libya was put into action under a revised strategic plan. The combined investigation team looking into crimes against migrants on the Central Mediterranean route has been collaborating closely with Khan’s office.

The ICC’s efforts were welcomed by Libya’s representative, who asked them to disclose the findings. The allegations of crimes against humanity and war crimes carried out in Libya since February 2011 are the main focus of the ICC’s investigations, which got underway in March 2011.

In its areas of investigation, the Office is approaching significant milestones, especially when it comes to offences connected to the 2014–2020 operations. The ICC prosecutor has asked for a larger budget for 2024, but council members did not agree.
