Mozambique’s $80 Billion to Transform Energy Production by 2050

Mozambique has recently greenlit a groundbreaking energy transition plan set to span until 2050, with the goal of securing investments totaling approximately $80 billion.

The proposal, which was accepted by the Council of Ministers in Mozambique, calls for expanding the country’s electrical infrastructure, switching to electric cars, and increasing hydropower capacity by 2,000 megawatts.

The international community endorsed the proposal during the COP28 climate meeting in Dubai, and it fits with Mozambique’s larger goals of promoting development and rescuing millions of people from poverty.

At the COP28 climate summit, President Filipe Nyusi is anticipated to announce the strategy.
