Oyo State Explosion: Officials Deny Terrorist Involvement

Fatai Owoseni, the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has denied that the explosion that occurred in Ibadan, the state capital, was caused by terrorists.

He stated that the area had been secured to prevent hoodlums from committing crimes. Owoseni criticized accounts of Boko Haram elements allowing invasion of Oyo State, a helicopter dropping the bomb, and construction sites using dynamite.

He emphasized that preliminary evidence indicates that people had been storing explosives in the area for some time.

Makinde confirmed that the explosion was caused by explosives stored by illegal miners occupying a house in the Bodija area of the city.

As of Wednesday evening, three people had been killed and 60 out of nearly 80 injured persons in hospitals had been discharged.
