President Tinubu Preside Over the First FEC Meeting

President Bola Tinubu is presiding over the maiden meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa’s Council Chambers in Abuja.

The meeting, which began just after noon on Monday, is being attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Federation’s Secretary to the Government, Sen. George Akume, and the Federation’s Head of Civil Service, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan.

Other attendees include the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the new ministries, and other high government officials.

According to the Ministers’ Statutory Powers and Duties Act, the council’s function is to serve as an advisory body to the President, who also serves as the FEC’s chairman.

Although the President is the ultimate executive decision-maker, the FEC has a constitutional responsibility in advising the President on the direction of government.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is part of the executive branch and functions as an advisory body to the President, who serves as its chairman.
