Second Abduction of Female Students in Katsina State in a Month

Gunmen have kidnapped five female students from a university in Nigeria’s northwestern Katsina state, marking the second such abduction in the region within a month. Kidnappings for ransom are common in the area due to high levels of poverty, unemployment, and easy access to illegal firearms.

The incident happened early on Wednesday at the Federal University in Dutsin-Ma town, with one suspect already arrested. This follows a similar kidnapping on September 22 where 24 female students were taken from their hostel at the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara state.

Fortunately, 16 of them were rescued three days later by security forces. The police are taking swift action to rescue the current victims and ensure their safe return.
