South Africa Alleges Israeli Genocide in Gaza, Recalls Ambassador

South Africa described the shelling of the Gaza Strip as “genocide” and withdrew its ambassador and diplomatic post from Israel. In addition, the South African government threatened to take legal action against the Israeli envoy for his comments regarding the nation’s position on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

After over 1,400 people were killed in an attack on Israel on October 7 by the terrorist Palestinian group Hamas, the war broke out. The department of foreign relations has been directed to take appropriate action within diplomatic channels and conventions to address the ambassador’s behaviour, and the South African government has chosen to withdraw all of its ambassadors from Tel Aviv for consultation.

The South African government has been urged to remove the Israeli envoy by demonstrators who support Palestine.

Minister of International Relations Naledi Pandor announced that South African officials will be brought back from Tel Aviv to provide the government with an in-depth report on the state of affairs in the area. The government of South Africa has demanded an immediate end to hostilities in Gaza and the entry of humanitarian supplies into the area under bombardment.
