Supreme Court Denies Atiku Abubakar’s Election Challenge

After eight months of litigation, the Nigerian Supreme Court has denied the pleas of two opposition candidates contesting Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election as president in February.

The seven-judge panel of the court denied the pleas of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, the candidates. After the disputed election on February 25, the verdicts ended an eight-month electoral dispute.

With 37% of the vote, Tinubu defeated Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP to win the election. There have been accusations of fraud following the election’s problems with electronic transfer failures and vote count delays.
