Supreme Court Questions Chicago Varsity Documents

In the election on February 25, 2023, former vice president Atiku Abubakar submitted documents pertaining to President Tinubu’s academic achievements.

These documents have been examined by the Supreme Court. Atiku and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, presented the documents in an effort to have Tinubu’s election declared invalid due to alleged fraud. One of the seven justices on the bench, Justice Emmanuel Agim, questioned and pointed out inconsistencies in the CSU documents.

Tinubu objected to the depositions’ admission, saying that in order for them to be admitted as evidence before a court, the person who took the deposition must also adopt it.

Uche clarified that the depositions were not based on a court order to explain the errors found in the communication by the Chicago State University and argued that such is not the practise in overseas proceedings.

After the parties adopted their written addresses for the appeal, the court also postponed making a decision in the combined appeal filed by Obi and the Labour Party disputing Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election on February 25.

The academic transcripts of Tinubu, which were provided to him by Chicago State University (CSU) on October 2, 2023, are the new proof Atiku hoped to provide.
