Tinubu’s Certificate: Chicago State University Locks X Account

The X page at Chicago State University in the United States has been made private after numerous Nigerians apparently rushed the page to enquire whether President Bola Tinubu genuinely graduated from the college.

This follows a case filed in a US court by the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to get information regarding Tinubu’s academic records at Chicago State University.

On Tuesday, I saw that the formerly Public page had been changed to Private, with the phrase “These posts are protected.” Only confirmed followers can see @ChicagoState’s posts and full profiles. To issue a follow request, tap a Follow icon.”

Early last year, online media stated that the institution had confirmed Tinubu’s attendance there.

In a terse email response, Beverly Poindexter, who is in charge of official transcript requests, enrolment, and degree verification at the Office of the Registrar, CSU, said, “Mr Tinubu did attend our university, however, if further information is needed, go to studentclearinghouse.org website to make a formal request.”

In an earlier letter dated August 20, 1999, and signed by then Registrar, Lois Davis, the university stated that Tinubu was its student between 1977 and 1979.

He wrote, “Please be advised that Bola A. Tinubu did indeed attend Chicago State University from August 1977 through June 1979. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Administration with honours on June 22, 1979. His major was Accounting.

Tinubu’s form CF004 submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission for his governorship re-election bid in 2003 also included a letter of praise from CSU praising his performance and “high scholastic achievement.”

Tinubu’s academic credentials have been a source of contention for some time, particularly in the aftermath of the 2023 general election.
