Ugandan LGBTQ Rights Activist Attacked and Severely Injured

LGBTQ rights activist Steven Kabuye was attacked and severely injured in Uganda while heading to work.

The incident occurred while Kabuye was heading to work. Rights activist Frank Mugisha condemned the attack, stating that “hate crimes have no place in Uganda” and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation.

Last year, Uganda passed one of the world’s strictest anti-homosexuality laws, leading to global outcry and the suspension of new loans by the World Bank and visa restrictions by the US.

Rights groups have contested the law in the Constitutional Court, arguing it violates equality and dignity. The government defends the law, claiming it safeguards traditional family values.
