UN Agencies Deprive Nigeria Of Donor Money

The federal government of Nigeria has asked the UN and its agencies to account for the money it received from foreign donors to address issues of poverty, women’s rights, and children.

Barrister Uche Kennedy Ohanenye, the minister of women’s affairs, charged that UN organisations were taking significant sums of money from Nigeria and using them for useless purposes.

She gave the UN organisations one month to publicise the monies or face legal action from Nigeria. Ohanenye gave several reasons for the UN’s support, including the growth in violence against women and children, poverty, the number of children who are not in school, and the dearth of politically active women.

She stated that rather than addressing the major difficulties they were causing, the funds were mostly utilised for summits, campaigning, and technical assistance.
