Unrest and Violence in Gidan Marayu, Sokoto State

Unrest in Gidan Marayu near Dundaye community in Sokoto State has been triggered by sporadic gunshots, causing a pandemonium.

Residents were terrified, believing the attackers were going to kidnap them, as the gunfire started at around 12 a.m. and continued for approximately an hour.

The Nigerian Police Force, Sokoto State Command Spokesman, Ahmad Rufai, could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed the killing of one person as youths of the Kwakwala community in Sokoto resisted terrorist attacks last week.

The suspected bandits, armed with cutlass and Dane guns, attacked a community behind the main campus of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.

The youths resisted the attacks, resulting in the death of one youth named Usman. Four other youths from the Kwalkwala and Dundaye communities also sustained injuries in the attack.
