4 Million Nigerians Apply for N50,000 Palliative Grant from the Government, Only 1 Million Selected
The Nigerian Government announced that nearly 4 million Nigerians applied for a palliative grant of N50,000 to ease economic hardship. However, only 1 million beneficiaries were selected, with 60% of them receiving the financial grant without repayment obligations across 774 local government areas.
The selection process is computer-generated randomly, with no immediate plans for other social intervention programs. Delays have occurred due to incorrect data, duplicate applications, and meticulous vetting. The final stages of vetting for MSME and Manufacturing loans are in progress, with disbursement expected by July-end.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, stressed the importance of accuracy over speed and urged citizens to provide constructive criticism and hold the government accountable. She also encouraged feedback without resorting to abuse or bigotry, and called for unity in building a more prosperous Nigeria.
